Luke on the Lights

In Luke's first 2 weeks of life we had quite a few doctor's visits. At one week old we found out he had  jaundice and had to be put under the bili lights. He was born with a large hematoma which seems to be the culprit behind the high bilirubin level. We missed having to go to the hospital by 1 point on his bilirubin level and were able to do the bili bed treatments at home. His second week of life consisted of bili lights, daily weigh-ins, and daily blood draws. By day 4 he was able to get off the bili lights and avoid further heel pricks. He is doing much better now; he no longer has jaundice, is eating better, and is more alert. I had a lactation consultant come and help Luke and I get back on track with nursing. He stopped nursing and eating well when he was on the bili bed so I had to supplement with the bottle. After the treatments were over I was still having problems getting him to nurse well but praise the Lord for lactation consultants! I'm thrilled to have Luke nursing better and we are finally finding our rhythm.
